Title: Technician for Synchrotron-radiation X-ray powder analysis
(Techniker für Synchrotron Pulver-Röntgenbeugung Analyse)


Job description
As a Technician for Synchrotron X-ray powder analysis, you will be primarily responsible for managing all company lab-related activities, in particular handling and preparing samples from industrial customers.You will also be the company interface for the access to various facilities at the Paul Scherrer Institute.
You will also be responsible for revising and improving the Quality Management System and ensure that day-to-day activities at ESS are compliant with Standard Operating Procedures and stringent safety protocols.


As a Technician for Synchrotron X-ray powder analysis you will:

  • Plan, receive and verify receipt of samples from industrial customers; document receipt of samples in appropriate logbooks.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient interactions with customers in order to collect the required information for a successful project execution.
  • Prepare samples to be analyzed at the synchrotron facility, including milling, dilution, temperature and relative humidity treatments.
  • Perform general lab duties and housekeeping, as required. Maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment in perfect compliance with the Paul Scherrer Institute and Excelsus Structural Solutions safety rules
  • Track lab supplies and chemicals; restock inventory in store rooms.
  • Prepare and qualify lab equipment via the required performance tests. Manage all maintenance tasks for this equipment.
  • Manage technical documentation: create, revise and improve company's SOPs, make recommendations to improve efficiency, ensure information is standardized and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Define and implement all required safety measures.
  • Participate to instrument set-up and measurements at the synchrotron facility
  • Contribute actively to the continuous improvement of the above activities.
  • Take care of the future growth of all lab-related activities of ESS.


Minimum requirements

 

  • Completed training as a laboratory technician in chemistry (e.g. "Chemielaborant") or equivalent. Additional practical experience in a pharmaceutical industry, work with Standard Operating Procedures and writing of scientific communication (i.e. company highlights on website or social networks) is a very relevant plus.
  • Ability to manage technical documentation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, meticulous and attentive to details
  • Ability to work in an autonomous way, performing tasks with extremely high accuracy and reliability, detecting deviations and inconsistencies.
  • Deep sense of responsibility, self-motivation and driving force for change.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with flexible hours and adapt to tight deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of German (spoken, written); very good knowledge of English (spoken, written).


Start date: to be agreed.
Employment Type: 80-100%; permanent position with probation period

Title: Scientist for Synchrotron-radiation X-ray powder analysis

 

 

Job description
As a Scientist for Synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (S-XRPD) analysis, you will be primarily responsible for analyzing S-XRPD datasets. You will also prepare and perform S-XRPD measurements for industrial customers and present conclusions of the data analysis in detailed experimental reports.

 

You will mainly:

  • Analyze S-XRPD data with Topas software, more specifically for projects related to Pharmaceutical Intellectual Property issues.
  • Rigorously apply data analysis protocols developed internally and summarize the outcome of your work in experimental reports with pre-defined format.
  • Work in accordance with the company's Standard Operating Procedures.

 

But also:

  • Plan and execute S-XRPD measurements at the Swiss Light Source (Material Science beamline, Powder Diffraction Endstation) or at other synchrotrons worldwide.
  • Decide on the most appropriate data collection/analysis strategy to best address the problems under investigation. Prepare Experimental Plans accordingly.
  • Develop innovative data collection/analysis protocols in order to adapt to emerging trends in pharmaceutical R&D.
  • Help to expand customer base and develop marketing strategies.
  • Define and implement all required safety measures.
  • Contribute actively to the continuous improvement of the above activities.

 

Requirements

  •  Completed PhD in physics, material science, chemistry or equivalent.
  • Excellent knowledge of X-Ray Powder Diffraction theory and technique. Knowledge of synchrotron-XRPD is an important plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of software for powder diffraction analysis. Knowledge of Topas is a great plus.
  • Ability to work in a very rigorous and autonomous way, performing tasks with extremely high accuracy and reliability, detecting deviations and inconsistencies.
  • Capable at the same time to keep the focus on the task you have been assigned and elaborate beyond it to solve more challenging problems.
  • A great team player.
  • Excellent knowledge of English (spoken, written) and experience in writing scientific communications. Basic knowledge of German is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and work under pressure. Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Strong customer-oriented mindset. Experience in contract research organization/in a pharmaceutical industry/ with S-XRPD is a great plus.
  • Analytical thinking, excellent problem solving, organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage technical documentation.
  • Great sense of responsibility, self-motivation and driving force for change.
  • Open to travel to synchrotrons and conferences outside Switzerland, if and when necessary.
